On a broad sidewalk, Antonis Pangapoulos methodically
arranged seven conceptually and philosophically charged words, written in
thirty different languages. The words THE TIME,THE MEMORY, THE PHILOSOPHY,THE
IDEA, EFFORT,THE MEDITATION,THE SOLUTION come from the artist’ s text, ΓAIA MNHMHΣ - ESPACE DE MEMOIRE, which has comprised the core
of his visual language since 1990. The text is a condensation of his
philosophical view, which revolves around the search for a universal visual
languages as it is defined trough global cultural memory.
The project began as a painterly exploration in
shades of blue and black, only, which traveled from the intersection of Logos and Memory to a text designed in such a
way that it tunes into the viewer’ s subconscious or consciousness and is perceived
as a picture of ideas.
Since then, the text has been translated into
all the world’s living and dead languages and reproduced in every form and by
every means of expression. Here, by selecting seven key words to philosophical
concepts, Panagopoulos invites the stroller to search within and retrieve
scattered bits of memory, beginning with an internal dialogue with his or
herself.
